How do I choose the right lighting for my room?

Layer your lighting with a mix of ambient (general), task (focused), and accent lighting to create a balanced and functional space. Combining all three is key to nailing the mood of a room.

Do your lights come with bulbs included?

This varies by product - generally only our portable lamps come with an integrated bulb, and the rest will need to have bulbs purchased separately. Please check individual product listings to see whether bulbs are included.

What do the different IP ratings mean?

IP (Ingress Protection) rating indicates how well a light fitting is protected against dust and water. It’s especially important for bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor lighting.First digit (0–6) = protection against solid objects/dustSecond digit (0–8) = protection against water So IP[X]3+ is OK in light rain but you'll need [X]4+ if your lamp is to spend a lot of time in the bathroom. Are LED lights better than traditional bulbs?

Yes, LED lights are more energy-efficient, longer-lasting, and environmentally friendly compared to incandescent or halogen bulbs.

What lighting is best for a cosy atmosphere?

Warmer lightbulbs, dimmable fixtures, and layered lighting help create a cosy and inviting space. It's helpful to mix different heights and sizes to be able to control the mood more based on what type of lighting you need at a certain time. Studies have even shown that warm lighting (vs cooler white lighting) has significant health benefits too.

What is the difference between warm white and cool white light?

Warm white (2700K–3000K) creates a cosy, relaxing atmosphere, while cool white (4000K–5000K) is brighter and better for task-oriented spaces like kitchens or offices.

Can your lighting complement luxury interiors?

Absolutely. Our lighting is designed to integrate seamlessly with all kinds of spaces, whether that's to make a statement in high-end interiors or to make your home feel more elevated as well as inviting.

Are your portable lamps battery operated or rechargeable? And how do I charge them?

It depends on the lamp! We sell a mix of rechargeable and battery operated lamps, so check the product description to see what style of lamp a particular product is, or explore our collections of battery operated lamps and rechargeable lamps.

Our rechargeable lamps will come with a USB or USB-C charging cable, and you simply connect them to a wall adapter, laptop, or power bank for convenient charging. For the majority of our battery operated lamps you will need to purchase batteries (we usually recommend rechargeable ones!).

How long do rechargeable lamps last on a full charge?

Most rechargeable lamps provide between 6 to 10 hours of light depending on brightness settings, and will slowly dim as they lose charge. Lower brightness modes extend battery life, making them ideal for evenings, outdoor use, or emergencies.

Can your portable lamps be used outdoors?

While many of our portables can be used for both indoor and outdoor lighting, they are not intended for permanent outdoor use and should not be left outside when not in use or in bad weather. Check the product description for IP rating to ensure suitability for outdoor conditions.

Are portable lamps bright enough for reading?

In general we wouldn't recommend our portable lamps for reading, but rather as mood lighting. Some portables feature adjustable brightness levels, but overall normally aren't bright enough for comfortable reading and are intended more for ambient use.

I'm having trouble charging/turning on my portable lamp - is it broken?

Are the bulbs replaceable or changeable in your portable lamps?

Generally our portable lamps come with an integrated bulb, so they are not changeable. If you have an issue with your bulb not working, please email customerservice@abigailahern.com

What bulb type do table lamps use?

Most table lamps use standard E27 or E14 bulbs. Always check the product specifications to confirm compatibility.

Are wired table lamps energy efficient?

They can be when paired with LED bulbs, which consume significantly less energy and last longer than traditional bulbs.

Where should I place a table lamp?

Table lamps can be used on any space that needs some illumination in your home - they work well on bedside tables, desks and side tables especially. They're usually used as either task or ambient lighting, but you can tailor them to your needs with the type of lightbulb you use.

Are ceiling lights easy to install?

Ceiling lights such as chandeliers typically require basic electrical installation when they are wired into the ceiling. If you're not experienced, we recommend hiring a qualified electrician for safe installation. Some of our pendants are easier to install as they often hang on existing ceiling bulbs. Please see each product's description and specifications for more information.

Are your ceiling lights dimmable?

Many of our ceiling lights and chandeliers are dimmable when paired with compatible bulbs and dimmer switches, but we would recommend consulting an electrictian for correct installation. Check product specifications for details.

What size chandelier should I choose?

It's up to you! Chandeliers can be a beautiful way to add a large, statement lighting piece to a room, but can also be used as a more understated but glamorous addition. Do floor lamps require assembly?

Most floor lamps require no - or minimal assembly, usually taking just a few minutes with no special tools needed.

Can I use LED bulbs in floor lamps?

Yes, all our floor lamps are compatible with energy-efficient LED bulbs, helping you reduce energy consumption and costs. Please read the product descriptions for the size at wattage needed for each product.

How are your larger lighting products delivered?

For larger and more delicate lighting like some of our chandeliers and pendants they often come in more structured boxes with extra packaging. Please check the product description for more information on packaged dimensions to ensure that it will fit through your entryway.

What warranty do you offer on lighting products?

We offer a standard manufacturer’s warranty, typically 12 months depending on the product. Products with a longer or shorter warranty will be clearly stated on the product page.

Can I return a light if it doesn’t suit my space?

Yes, we offer a hassle-free return policy within 30 days. Please ensure the item is unused and in original packaging.
